I began doing income taxes in 1987 as a volunteer for the IRS’s VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) Program at Southern Illinois University. That same year, I received my degree in accounting and passed the CPA exam on first attempt, receiving an award for scoring in the top 1/2 of 1 percent in the nation. I have been preparing income taxes now for over 30 years.
